Better chances on Android Market – Android Market on the Emulator – Not Exactly Fair Way

If you want to increase your chances for better place in android market search results you might want to use android market on android emulator. But remember its not fair to use this. I’m just writing whats is possible.

Getting Started
This tutorial assumes you have the Android SDK installed and functioning, and have downloaded at least the basic Android 1.6 target. If not, complete these steps before continuing.

First step:

  1. Download emulator system image file for 1.6 or 2.2 emulators – those image files are given to developers by HTC (thanks HTC!)
  2. Create new virtual device with target 1.6 or 2.2

Replacing the System Image:

  1. Now you need to copy “system.img” file that you downloaded
  2. copy “system.img” in to android/avd/your avd name/ (replace is one already egzist

 

Starting android market:

  1. Run avd in witch you put “system.img”
  2. When avd boots you will need to create new google account and add it to your avd just like you do with android phone
  3. If you cannot open keyboard press skip button that will appear after booting and create google account by clicking android market icon in all apps

 

You are done:

If you fallowed all my steps now you can download all your app witch give them + installs and you can also comment on those!

Ideas for Better Monetization of Applications – LeadBolt App Walls

If you read some previous posts of mine you already know that i’ve been using LeadBolt (an in-app and outside app advertising network) for a few months now, with great results. The rich media content unlockers offered by LeadBolt are very effective, especially if you’re developing a game where the interstitial format makes sense (e.g. a block ads between levels or giving additional content when user perform advertised task). Abaut Leadbolt everything is great but ther standard ad banners give slightly less cpm.

 

In december LeadBolt announced  “App Wall” its their new advertising format. This is a full-page ad, there is no need for SDK integration, “App Wall” is simply embedded in a WebView. The app wall offers the user a list of free apps to download. If they click and download one of the apps, Leadbolt will pay you a referral fee witch is around 30-100 cents (at least for me).

When i heard about this i immediately fought about embedding this as one of menus positions. I called this position “Current Top Applications”. By integrating “App Wall” under this position you get easy and not aggressive for the user per per download money. User can simply choose to ignore that menu item if they’re not interested in the advertising (not annoyed user = happy user that use our app more often). List of apps on “App Wall” change very often so , users are likely to keep returning to this section day after day especially if they get interesting app that way.

Developer Income Report #1

My 1st android ads income report for you! I will present you statistics and methods that i used for this application.

If you dont know that already i decided to go with Leadbolt ad network using only push notification ads.

Report refer this application

What i did before adding Leadbolt ads and what was happening to my application.

  1. Uploaded app to market around 12 o’clock on Friday. Friday is the day that starts biggest movement on the android market. At the 1st day i had 350 active users thats very good number! Usually fresh apps dont go above 100 downloads.
  2. I posted my application on android related forums that gave notable boost in downloads.
  3. My application had steady growth of 500+ active installs per day but after one month everything broke to 50-100 downloads. Thats due to promotion of new apps by market search engine witch ends after 30 days.
  4. In those 30 days my application reached 20k active users with 50% ratio active/installations
  5. So when downloads stopped i decided to go with  push notification ads.

What happened after adding Leadbolt?

Conclusions after month and 7 days of Leadbolt:

  1. I managed to reach quite some number with fresh application with not so well made graphics.
  2. Income i made in those 7 days = 130$ While using admob i probably  would earn around 5-7$ so its gigantic improvement! admbo cpm atm is eaqual to 0.20 cents so Leadbolt have 10-30 times bigger cpm! On some days  Leadbolts cpm can reach 20$ depending on country. Germany pays most for ads on their territory.

I’m really happy what i earned from this application. Developing it took me about 10 hours. Teak in account that i had to learn ho to make widgets because i never made one before.

Your App – Adding Push Ads

If you read on of my other posts you probably already know that i’m using this ad network

 

I assume you already made your account here and downloaded latest sdk, added your application to the Leadbolt website also that you chose notification as ad type.

First what you need to do:

  1. add sdk jar file to your android project in to lib folder ( if there is no such create one).
  2. right click on sdk jar and chose build patch >  add to build patch
  3. add fallowing uses permissions to your manifest file  (wake_lock permission is not necessary)
    <uses-permission android:name=”android.permission.WAKE_LOCK” />
    <uses-permission android:name=”android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED” />
  4. add receiver within <application> tag

    <application … >

    <receiver android:name=”com.Leadbolt.AdNotification” />

    </application>

  5. now proceed in to one of your clases that you use in your application and in onCreate() function (or inside function/method where you want to trigger ad)
    String MY_LEADBOLT_SECTION_ID=”type your section id that you received when adding app to leadbolt  website”;

    AdController myController = new AdController(getApplicationContext(), MY_LEADBOLT_SECTION_ID);

    myController.loadNotification();

     

If you wish ads to be served even when user restarted his phone:
  1. add fallowing code to manifes

    <application …>

    <receiver android:name=”<Package Name>.BootReceiver”> <intent-filter>

    <action android:name=”android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED” /> </intent-filter>

    </receiver>

    </application>

  2. add new class called BootReceiver to your application and insert fallowing code

    public class BootReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {

    public void onReceive(Context arg0, Intent arg1) { //register the notification on reboot

    AdController mycontroller = new AdController(arg0, “YOUR_LB_SECTION_ID”);

    }

    mycontroller.loadNotification();

    }

  3. Remember about imports! You are done!

I gave up a day job to make a living from online income!

It is over  3 months since I have decided to gave up my day job and my studies. So literal i risked a lot of my life time.

I became independent developer.

 

 

 

 

 

What was my goal?

- Work for less than FIVE hours a day so i will have a lot of time for enjoining life

-Having my only income source from android applications

-After a year or so not having to do anything to earn

-Never ever having Boss above me!!!

What was my plan?

-Make as many “fast” made applications like “Anti Dog Repellent”

-My only options to monetize applications was ads, since i cannot post paid applications on android market from my country

How is it after 3 months?

My income is growing rapidly. Last month my maximum per day was 230$ only from mobile ads in my FREE applications. In January my total revenue is equal to $3,748.90!!! I earn that much after 2 months of being “Independent Developer” Its already twice as much as i had in my day job!
